Apple Invests $60 Billion in Texas Manufacturing Ahead of CEO Transition

Apple is committing $60 billion to Texas as part of its ambitious $600 billion domestic investment plan, which spans from 2025 to 2029. This investment includes the establishment of a new facility in Houston dedicated to advanced AI server production and the assembly of Mac mini devices.

The Houston Advanced Manufacturing Center officially opened on August 13, 2026, just before Tim Cook transitions to the role of executive chairman on September 1, 2026, passing the CEO title to hardware chief John Ternus. This timing underscores the significance of the investment as a part of Cook's legacy.

The $600 billion roadmap follows an initial $500 billion investment commitment announced in early 2025, which was later increased by an additional $100 billion with the launch of the American Manufacturing Program (AMP). The Texas allocation focuses on advanced AI server production, device assembly, and workforce training programs.

In addition to the Texas investment, AMP includes a $2.5 billion partnership with Corning for cover glass production in Kentucky and over $30 billion in contracts with Broadcom for U.S.-manufactured chips. Suppliers are expected to produce over 20 billion chips in 2025, with more than 100 million chips coming from the TSMC facility in Arizona by 2026.

This strategic localization of production aims to mitigate risks associated with trade policy uncertainties. The establishment of AI server production in Houston indicates Apple's commitment to integrating on-device and cloud AI into its future product offerings. Investors have reacted positively to these developments, with Apple's stock experiencing gains following the announcement of the AMP expansion.
