Bitwise and Superstate Collaborate on Tokenizing Solana Staking ETF
Bitwise Asset Management has announced a partnership with tokenization firm Superstate to investigate the possibility of allowing shares of its Solana staking ETF to be held on-chain. This collaboration aims to develop infrastructure that would enable investors to choose between traditional shareholding through the Depository Trust Company or having their ownership recorded on a blockchain via Superstate’s transfer agency infrastructure.
The Solana Staking ETF, trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker BSOL, is expected to be the first fund considered for this tokenized share option. However, Bitwise has cautioned that the feature is subject to legal and regulatory requirements, and there is no guarantee it will be implemented.
Tokenization would not create a separate investment product or alter the underlying rights associated with the shares. Investors would continue to purchase BSOL shares through existing channels, with the only change being how ownership is recorded. Tokenized shares would retain the same rights as traditional shares but would not be freely transferable outside the designated recordkeeping system.
Superstate specializes in providing infrastructure for bringing securities on-chain, including compliant issuance, recordkeeping, direct investor registration, and integration with on-chain markets. Launched in October 2025, BSOL aims to provide direct exposure to Solana while seeking additional SOL through staking. As of late July, the fund managed approximately $592 million in assets. Bitwise currently oversees more than $9 billion in client assets across over 70 investment products, indicating that additional ETFs could adopt the tokenized share structure if this initiative progresses.
