Dragonfly's Haseeb Qureshi Advocates for Zcash Development Fund to Conclude by 2028

Haseeb Qureshi, managing partner at Dragonfly Capital, has called for the Zcash development fund to continue until its planned expiration around November 2028. He argues that this timeline is crucial to complete necessary technical work before the fund is ultimately shut down.

The recent price surge of Zcash (ZEC) has transformed the funding mechanism into a significantly larger financial resource, raising concerns among stakeholders. Currently, the development fund has exceeded $95 million, and Qureshi warns that surpassing the $100 million mark could lead to complications related to institutionalization and politicization of technical decisions.

Qureshi outlined three critical workstreams that Zcash must complete: the Tachyon performance upgrade, quantum resistance measures, and formal verification methods to counter AI-driven threats. He estimates that these tasks require one to two more years of focused development, aligning with the 2028 deadline.

In addition to his advocacy for a structured approach to governance, Qureshi has a vested interest in Zcash, having disclosed his investment in the Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL). He believes that limiting coinholder input in favor of committee oversight will ensure policy stability during this technical phase.

The upcoming Zcon7 conference is expected to be pivotal in discussing the implications of the funding model, with Qureshi's proposal for a definitive end date potentially shaping the future of Zcash's development.
