Esports Nations Cup Delayed to 2027 Amid Iran Conflict Impacting Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia's ambition to become a leading hub for competitive gaming faces a setback as the Esports Foundation announced the postponement of the inaugural Esports Nations Cup (ENC) to November 2027. Originally scheduled for November 2026 in Riyadh, the delay is attributed to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, which has raised safety and logistical concerns.

Despite qualifiers for most of the tournament's 16 titles being largely completed, the Esports Foundation emphasized the need for a continued assessment of safety issues. The ENC was intended to feature national teams competing in popular games such as Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Valorant, and Apex Legends, with a significant prize pool of $20 million.

This postponement follows the relocation of the 2026 Esports World Cup from Riyadh to Paris due to similar safety concerns. The qualification structure for the ENC involved various pathways, including rankings and regional competitions, but the delay leaves participants in a state of uncertainty regarding the status of their qualifications.

The Esports Foundation has not confirmed whether the current qualification results will be honored or if new qualifiers will be necessary, leaving teams and players in limbo as they await further updates on the event.
