FC Barcelona Launches Cardano-Based Barça Fan Lab for Enhanced Fan Engagement

FC Barcelona has officially launched the Barça Fan Lab, a new digital platform leveraging the Cardano blockchain to enhance fan engagement. Developed in collaboration with technology partner Andamio, this initiative enables fans to earn verifiable credentials by participating in various activities related to the club.

Accessing the platform is facilitated through BarçaID, the club’s existing digital identity system. Upon signing in, fans automatically create a personal Cardano wallet linked to their profile, which stores the credentials they earn. The program encompasses four main areas: club history and values, sustainability and inclusion themes, bridging physical fan communities with digital participation, and exploring Web3 applications like collectibles and loyalty systems, although the latter remains experimental.

Notably, the project received funding from Cardano’s Catalyst Fund 13, which influenced FC Barcelona's decision to choose this blockchain over others. While sports clubs have increasingly partnered with crypto projects, the success of such initiatives has varied, with some fan tokens experiencing liquidity issues and limited utility post-launch.

FC Barcelona is no stranger to the crypto space, having previously launched Barça.Pass, a Web3 wallet that reached over 11 million existing BarçaID users in 2025. The effectiveness of the Barça Fan Lab in fostering meaningful fan engagement will depend on its adoption rates, which the club has yet to disclose.
