Google Cloud to Shut Down Blockchain Node Engine, Customers Directed to Quicknode
Google Cloud is set to exit the blockchain node business, with plans to fully shut down its Blockchain Node Engine and Blockchain RPC services by December 15, 2026. Customers currently using these services will be transitioned to Quicknode, which has been designated as Google’s officially recommended RPC infrastructure provider.
The shutdown will occur in two stages. The first stage began on June 15, 2026, when Google Cloud disabled the creation of new nodes and stopped provisioning new Blockchain RPC endpoints. Existing nodes and endpoints will remain operational with limited support until the final cutoff date.
On December 15, 2026, all remaining nodes and endpoints will be deleted. Google has provided migration documentation to assist customers in transitioning to Quicknode, which can be accessed through the Google Cloud Marketplace or directly on Quicknode’s platform.
The Blockchain Node Engine offered a managed solution for running blockchain nodes, primarily supporting Ethereum Mainnet and its testnets, along with Polygon and Solana. This change will require engineering teams to adapt and migrate their workloads, particularly those relying on historical data queries, which can be complex to replicate.
Quicknode stands to benefit significantly from this partnership, as being named the official provider by Google Cloud positions it favorably in the competitive infrastructure market.
