Houthi Forces Target Saudi Aramco's Jazan Refinery in Latest Strike

On August 9, Yemen’s Houthi forces launched an attack on Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery, igniting a fire at one of the kingdom's critical processing facilities located near the Yemen border. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and the fire was quickly contained.

This incident marks the second strike on the Jazan complex within a span of two weeks, following a July 27 attack that forced a temporary shutdown of the refinery, which has a capacity of 400,000 barrels per day.

Escalating Attacks on Saudi Energy Sites

The recent strikes are part of a broader pattern of escalation, as Houthi forces have targeted multiple Saudi energy sites throughout 2026, including the Abqaiq crude stabilization plant and facilities near Yanbu. Aramco CEO Amin Nasser has emphasized the company's operational resilience, stating that production and export schedules have been quickly restored after each incident.

In response to the ongoing conflict, Saudi Arabia has sought to strengthen its defense alliances with Turkey and Pakistan. These agreements come amid disputes over control of vital shipping routes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil supply.
