Hunter Biden to Launch LAPTOP Meme Coin on Coinbase's Base Blockchain

Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, is preparing to launch a meme coin named LAPTOP on Coinbase's Base blockchain on September 9. This initiative, reported by The Wall Street Journal, is seen as a direct response to the TRUMP token, which has experienced a significant decline in value.

The LAPTOP token will have a total supply of one billion coins, with 30% allocated to the founders, including Hunter Biden, under a vesting schedule. Additionally, 20% of the tokens will be distributed to individuals who lost money on the TRUMP token, as well as to subscribers of Biden's Substack and a mailing list curated by journalist Andrew Callaghan. Other allocations will support charity, liquidity, and the foundation managing the project.

This launch comes amid a cooling enthusiasm for meme coins, with the TRUMP token reportedly down nearly 97% from its peak. Hunter Biden has been increasingly vocal about his support for cryptocurrencies, having accepted Bitcoin for his artwork and expressed positive sentiments about decentralized digital currencies in various forums.

The LAPTOP coin aims to capitalize on the notoriety of Hunter Biden's laptop, which became a focal point of political controversy during the 2020 election. The project is part of a broader media engagement strategy by Biden, who has been appearing on podcasts and news shows to discuss his views on crypto and other topics.
