Illinois Hospital to Distribute $650,000 Settlement to Data Breach Victims

Roseland Community Hospital Association in Illinois is set to distribute $650,000 as part of a class action settlement concerning a data breach that compromised the private information of approximately 101,354 patients. The breach, which occurred on June 2, 2024, involved unauthorized access to the hospital's IT network.

The exposed data may have included sensitive information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, medical record numbers, health insurance details, diagnoses, treatment information, and Social Security numbers. Although Roseland denies any wrongdoing, the settlement aims to mitigate the costs and uncertainties associated with further litigation.

Class members can claim up to $5,000 for documented losses related to the breach, along with an estimated $50 pro rata cash payment and one year of free medical records monitoring, which includes up to $1 million in identity theft insurance. Claims must be submitted by December 31, 2026, with a final approval hearing scheduled for January 6, 2027.
