Nvidia's Jensen Huang Advocates for AI Infrastructure at G20 Meeting

During the G20 Innovation Ministerial held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on September 2, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, called on G20 nations to accelerate their adoption of artificial intelligence by expanding their AI infrastructure. Huang emphasized that one gigawatt of AI infrastructure would require an investment of approximately $50 billion to $60 billion, likening its importance to that of traditional power grids and highways.

Huang described AI as a “great equalizer,” arguing that it democratizes intelligence and capabilities, allowing nations with limited research institutions to deploy advanced AI models effectively. This perspective was echoed by other industry leaders, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown, who participated in what appeared to be a coordinated lobbying effort for the AI sector.

The discussion also highlighted the need for a balanced regulatory approach, with U.S. officials advocating for light-touch regulation that addresses real-world harms rather than imposing preemptive restrictions. Huang's framework, referred to as “Jensen Math,” aims to translate the costs associated with AI infrastructure into terms that resonate with finance ministers and investors.
