OpenAI Pursues $30 Billion Funding Round at $1.25 Trillion Valuation

OpenAI is reportedly in discussions for a funding round that could raise nearly $30 billion, valuing the artificial intelligence company at approximately $1.25 trillion. This move comes as OpenAI seeks to bolster its financial position ahead of a potential initial public offering (IPO).

According to sources, investors from the United Arab Emirates and the investment firm Coatue are leading this funding initiative. If successful, the new capital could elevate OpenAI’s total valuation to as much as $1.28 trillion. The company aims to finalize agreements with investors by the end of next week, although the exact size of the funding round remains uncertain.

The funding discussions began in September, initiated by investor proposals for additional financing. Alongside the funding, OpenAI is also negotiating a commercial agreement to enhance its computing capacity with partners in the UAE. The company has indicated plans to invest approximately $600 billion in computing infrastructure by 2030.

OpenAI's pursuit of funding follows a confidential IPO filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission in June. The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Friar, has informed employees that a public listing is anticipated in 2027, although CEO Sam Altman has expressed caution regarding the timing due to current market conditions.

This funding effort comes amid increasing competition from other AI firms, notably Anthropic, which is also preparing for a public offering and has recently raised significant capital. As demand for advanced AI technologies continues to grow, both companies are investing heavily in data centers and cloud infrastructure.
