Robinhood Wallet and Fomo Enable Memecoin Purchases via Credit Card

Robinhood Wallet and the social trading app Fomo have rolled out a new feature that allows users to purchase memecoins using credit cards through Apple Pay and Google Pay. This integration, powered by Crossmint’s Token Checkout, eliminates the need for separate ID verification or KYC checks at the point of sale.

The purchasing process is designed to be seamless. Users simply select a token in either the Robinhood Wallet or Fomo app and check out using a linked credit card. This frictionless experience means no exchange deposits, wire transfers, or waiting for funds to clear—just one tap to acquire tokens.

Fomo, which integrated with Robinhood Chain shortly after its mainnet launch on July 1, is tailored for social trading, featuring leaderboards and token discovery tools while allowing users to maintain control of their private keys. This non-custodial architecture ensures that users are not depositing funds with a centralized entity.

Interestingly, these transactions are classified under a merchant category code for “digital goods media,” enabling some credit cards to offer rewards like points or cash back on memecoin purchases. However, Chase has flagged these transactions for potential violations of its terms with Visa, indicating a scrutiny of how these purchases are categorized.

The introduction of credit card purchases for memecoins could significantly impact the memecoin market, providing an easy on-ramp for users while supporting the growth of Robinhood Chain, which requires transaction volume to establish itself in the competitive blockchain landscape.
