Skilux: From Esports to Digital Fine Art

Belgian artist Skilux has made a remarkable transition from esports design to the realm of digital fine art. This shift was not merely a change in career but a natural evolution for him, driven by a desire to convey deeper emotions that traditional design could not encapsulate.

In the early days of web3, Skilux envisioned a future where raw emotion and digital expression could coexist harmoniously. His artwork, predominantly in black and white, stands in stark contrast to the fast-paced nature of contemporary digital culture, inviting viewers into a more reflective space where themes of memory, grief, and resilience are explored.

Skilux's artistic journey has been punctuated by notable achievements. His debut on SuperRare in 2022 showcased his poignant piece, “The Choices I Made,” which was collected by Cozomo de’Medici. He further broadened his reach with contributions to various exhibitions, including the “Harmony in Hues” at Art in Space Gallery and a collaboration with Jesperish featured in Sotheby’s Digital Art Day Sale in August 2024.

In an interview, Skilux shared insights into his creative process, emphasizing that his art is a reflection of complex human emotions. He utilizes Photoshop and a Wacom tablet, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, music, and film. For him, art serves as a therapeutic medium to navigate and understand his own trauma.

Despite his successes, Skilux acknowledges the challenges faced by emerging artists in the web3 landscape, particularly in marketing their work to collectors. He advises fellow artists to remain true to their creative vision and to embrace experimentation in their artistic journey.
