Solana Achieves Record 5.2 Billion Non-Vote Transactions in August 2026

Solana has reported its busiest month to date, processing an impressive 5.2 billion non-vote transactions in August 2026. This milestone reflects a significant increase in network activity, particularly following the SIMD-0286 upgrade implemented on July 29, which enhanced the maximum compute limit per block by 66%.

The upgrade allowed for a peak of 171.9 million daily non-vote transactions on August 10, pushing the network's throughput close to 2,000 transactions per second. Notably, the week of August 17-23 alone accounted for 1.318 billion non-vote transactions, marking the fourth consecutive week above the 1 billion mark.

In comparison, July concluded with 4.2 billion non-vote transactions, a 91% increase from December 2025. Additionally, the network's slot time was compressed to 300 milliseconds on August 28, further enhancing transaction speeds.

DeFi activity played a crucial role in this surge, with daily volumes ranging between $4 billion and $8 billion. The rise in transaction density was also fueled by interest in memecoins and tokenized real-world assets. Institutional interest has surged as well, with Solana ETFs attracting $1.34 billion in August.

As a result of this increased activity, SOL's price rose by 46% during the month, marking its first positive monthly return in ten months. Fee revenue also saw a significant increase, with a seven-day average reaching approximately 9,200 SOL by late August, an 80% rise over three months.

On the governance front, the SGP-0002 proposal was passed on August 28, which aims to reduce the SOL supply by 18.9 million tokens over six years by reallocating a portion of inflation.

Despite these advancements, challenges remain. The transaction volume driven by speculative assets raises concerns about sustainability, and any network outages could reignite criticism. Observing fee revenue growth and sustained ETF inflows will be critical in the upcoming months to determine if August's record represents a new baseline for Solana.
