Solana Explores Geo-Aware Validator Scheduling to Reduce Latency
Solana is advancing its efforts to reduce latency through a new study on geo-aware validator scheduling. This research suggests that arranging validators geographically can lead to quicker handovers, potentially reducing average delays by around 29 milliseconds. However, this approach raises security concerns, as clustering validators by location may lead to a concentration of activity in specific regions and incentivize misreporting of validator locations.
The study, which analyzed 6,250 synthetic networks based on Solana's existing 124 validator locations, emphasizes the need for a balance between speed and network resilience. While the findings are promising, they remain in the research phase and have not yet been implemented on the mainnet.
