Tesla Increases Optimus Robot Production Amid Supply Chain Challenges

Tesla has significantly increased its production of the Optimus humanoid robot, scaling up output tenfold in recent months at its Fremont factory. This move marks a pivotal moment for the program, which could redefine Tesla's identity beyond electric vehicles.

Elon Musk has acknowledged the challenges of establishing a supply chain for the humanoid robots, stating that much of it is being developed from scratch. The initial production rates are expected to be slow, with the company targeting around 1,000 units per month, and aiming for approximately 1,000 units per week by the end of 2026.

Current production is primarily for internal use rather than external sales, as Tesla works to build a network of suppliers capable of meeting its needs. The company has reported orders for roughly 15,000 Optimus units, aligning with its production goals for the year.

Meanwhile, Tesla employees involved in training the Optimus robot have faced physical challenges, with reports of health issues arising from demanding training activities. The company has shifted its data collection methods to reduce the physical toll on workers.

Despite these hurdles, the market has reacted positively to Tesla's production milestones, with analysts speculating that the Optimus could eventually be priced below $30,000 per unit once fully commercialized.
