UEFA and Other Confederations Unite Against FIFA's $20B Subsidiary Plan

Three major football confederations have united in opposition to FIFA President Gianni Infantino's controversial plan to establish a new subsidiary, the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which aimed to package FIFA's core revenue-generating operations and sell a minority stake to private investors.

The UEFA, CONCACAF, and AFC issued a joint letter criticizing the proposal for its lack of transparency, insufficient oversight, and governance failures. Their swift and coordinated response effectively quashed the initiative shortly after its announcement in late July 2026.

UEFA escalated its stance by threatening to boycott all FIFA competitions if the FFE plan proceeded. This opposition comes at a critical time, as multiple national associations, including the English FA, have withdrawn their support for Infantino's re-election ahead of the upcoming FIFA Congress in March 2027.

The FFE proposal, valued at approximately $20 billion, raised significant concerns among the confederations regarding the concentration of power within FIFA's leadership. While the idea of inviting private investment into football's core operations could potentially benefit grassroots development, the confederations argued that the proposal lacked adequate checks and balances.

In response to the ongoing tensions, UEFA is exploring the revival of the Global Nations League concept, which would create a rival tournament structure to FIFA's competitions, potentially in collaboration with CONCACAF and the AFC.
