X Introduces Upcoming Crypto Trade Buttons Amid Shadowban Controversy

Nikita Bier, the former head of product at X, has revealed that the platform is set to introduce crypto trade buttons, enabling users to trade digital assets directly from their timelines. This announcement comes as Bier counters rumors suggesting that X has been shadowbanning crypto accounts.

In a post on August 25, Bier stated that the trade buttons will complement the existing Smart Cashtags feature, which allows users to embed live Solana and Ethereum price charts in their posts. He emphasized that he was responsible for creating Cashtags and claimed that there were no prior features for crypto traders on X before his involvement.

The trade buttons will streamline the trading process, allowing users to execute buy or sell orders without leaving the platform. Currently, users can paste contract addresses for tokens directly into posts, which is crucial for verifying the legitimacy of tokens in a space often plagued by scams.

Bier also addressed the recent market rally, attributing it not to X's features but to the U.S. Treasury's bond buyback strategy. Despite stepping down from his role at X earlier this month, he continues to advocate for the Smart Cashtags initiative, which is a key part of X's vision to become a comprehensive platform for messaging, commerce, and trading.

While the initial rollout of the trade buttons is expected to target iOS users, the exact launch date remains unspecified. The feature aims to enhance user engagement and facilitate easier access to trading within the social media environment.
