FBI Agent Arrested for Alleged $1 Million Crypto Theft

In a shocking turn of events, an FBI agent has been arrested for allegedly looting approximately $1 million in cryptocurrency from adversarial wallets. Patrick Yaroch, a supervisory special agent at the Bureau's headquarters in Washington, D.C., reportedly turned himself in after expressing guilt over his actions.

According to an affidavit from another FBI agent, Yaroch self-reported his misconduct, stating that the situation was 'eating him up inside.' His career with the FBI included time in the Boston Division, where he focused on national security investigations related to an unnamed adversarial nation-state. After moving to the Counterintelligence and Espionage Division in February 2025, he became frustrated with the Bureau's inability to act against certain cryptocurrency accounts.

Yaroch allegedly accessed FBI systems to obtain the necessary passkeys to transfer funds from multiple adversarial wallets to his personal accounts. He created a crypto wallet with Kraken and executed 10 to 12 transfers, accumulating a total value of around $1 million. The affidavit notes that the stolen assets were mixed with his personal funds, making it unclear how much was specifically taken from the adversarial wallets.

Following the transfers, Yaroch moved approximately $1.02 million from Kraken to a cross-platform wallet app called Slush, and then utilized a decentralized finance platform named Suilend. The FBI later recovered funds from his accounts, totaling $925,426.07, while around $165,582.49 remained in his Kraken account in USD.

Additionally, agents seized personal property from Yaroch's home, including his phone, which revealed searches related to relocating to Europe and operating a vineyard. Court documents indicate that he had even consulted ChatGPT for advice on moving to an EU country with his family.

Yaroch has been charged with two felonies, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The investigation into his actions is ongoing, and he was terminated from his position at the FBI on July 31.
