Bitcoin.com Integrates UAE's First Central Bank-Registered Stablecoin USDU
Bitcoin.com has officially integrated USDU, the first US dollar-backed stablecoin registered with the Central Bank of the UAE, into its self-custodial wallet available on both web and mobile platforms. This integration, announced on August 19, 2026, marks a significant partnership with Universal Digital Intl. Limited, enabling Bitcoin.com users to hold, send, and receive USDU as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain.
USDU was registered by the Central Bank of the UAE on January 29, 2026, making it the only USD-backed stablecoin authorized by the CBUAE. The token is backed 1:1 by liquid US dollar reserves held at two of the UAE’s largest banks, Emirates NBD and Mashreq. Monthly independent attestations confirming these reserves are published on Universal's website, and the smart contract for USDU has been audited by CertiK.
Currently, USDU is limited to professional clients and designated use cases, and it cannot be used for general UAE Dirham payments. Bitcoin.com CEO Corbin Fraser highlighted transparency as a key factor in the partnership, while Universal’s CEO Juha Viitala described the collaboration as a natural fit between self-custody and regulatory assurance.
Bitcoin.com plans to enhance USDU's functionality beyond basic transfers, with future features including peer-to-peer payments, educational tools, and third-party swap integrations. The possibility of accepting USDU as payment for Bitcoin.com’s own services is also being considered.
