Manchester United to Celebrate 300th Champions League Match Against Sabah

Manchester United is set to step onto the Old Trafford pitch on Thursday evening for their 300th Champions League match, a record no other British club has achieved. The match against Sabah is scheduled for 8 PM BST and marks United's return to Europe’s premier club competition after a two-season absence.

Manager Michael Carrick successfully guided United back into the Champions League following a strong performance in the 2025-26 Premier League season, with qualification confirmed in May 2026.

Heading into this landmark fixture, United's all-time Champions League record stands at 299 matches: 161 wins, 70 draws, and 68 losses, with a total of 545 goals scored and 299 conceded, resulting in a win rate of just over 53%. The club has lifted the Champions League trophy three times, with victories in 1968, 1999, and 2008, and has reached the final five times.

The 2026/27 edition of the tournament features a revamped league-phase format, replacing the traditional group stage. In this new format, 36 clubs will compete in a single league table, each playing eight matches against different opponents before the knockout rounds commence in February 2027. United's schedule includes matches against notable teams such as Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

United first entered the European Cup in the 1956-57 season under legendary manager Matt Busby, becoming one of the first English clubs to compete in the continental tournament despite initial resistance from the Football League.
