NJ Lenders Corp Settles Data Breach Lawsuit, Offers Up to $2,500 to Affected Customers

NJ Lenders Corp has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit stemming from a data breach that occurred in August 2025, which compromised the personal information of its customers. The case, titled Castenie et al. v. NJ Lenders Corp, involved unauthorized access to sensitive files containing names, Social Security numbers, and other personal data.

The settlement will benefit around 35,000 class members and includes provisions for one year of credit monitoring and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance. Affected individuals can claim reimbursement for documented losses up to $2,500 or opt for a flat payment of $40, subject to a total cap of $100,000, which may lead to pro rata reductions.

While NJ Lenders denies any wrongdoing, the deadlines for opting out or objecting to the settlement are set for September 16, 2026, with claims due by October 1, 2026. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
