OpenAI Introduces New $100 ChatGPT Pro Tier Amid High Demand for AI Services

OpenAI is expanding its subscription offerings with a new $100 per month tier for ChatGPT, aimed at users seeking more than the $20 Plus plan but less than the $200 Pro plan. This new tier, introduced on April 9, 2026, provides five times the usage limits of the Plus plan and is particularly beneficial for those utilizing OpenAI’s Codex for coding tasks.

The $100 tier also grants access to GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's latest flagship model, allowing users 50 Astra chat messages per week. Meanwhile, the $200 Pro tier, which has been in high demand since its launch on December 5, 2024, offers 200 Astra messages per week and 20 times the usage limits of the Plus plan. However, due to unprecedented demand, OpenAI paused new sign-ups for the $200 tier on September 10, 2026, while lower-priced plans remain available for new subscribers.

This strategic pricing adjustment comes as competitors like Anthropic introduce similar offerings, intensifying the competition in the AI subscription market. OpenAI's promotional period, which concluded on May 31, 2026, provided existing $200 subscribers with ten times their normal usage limits, likely contributing to the rapid saturation of that tier.
