New York Couple Sentenced for Draining $150,000 from Elderly Man's Accounts

A couple from Belmont, New York, has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing more than $150,000 from an elderly man in Delaware. Bonnie Stiner, 56, and Craig Stiner, 55, pleaded guilty to felony theft and conspiracy in the second degree, with their crimes spanning from January 2022 to March 2023.

The victim, who was 92 years old at the time of the theft, has since passed away. The Stiners accessed his bank account multiple times, using the funds for personal expenses such as bills, vacations, and entertainment. Additionally, Craig Stiner was involved in removing valuable coins from the victim's safe deposit boxes, which were then pawned by the couple.

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings condemned the actions of the Stiners, stating, "Theft in any capacity is criminal, to steal an entire life’s savings from a nonagenarian is utterly despicable." The Stiners are also required to pay restitution to the victim’s family during their probation period. The case was handled by the Delaware Department of Justice’s Economic Crimes Unit.
